Every Good Gift Comes from God

Start Here

What’s the best gift you’ve ever been given?

Reading — James 1:17

Read it aloud once, slowly, then pause before you say anything.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.

Discussion

Littles

Think of someone who loves you. Do they want to give you good things, or bad things?

Good things, every time — so what does it tell you about God that every good thing in your day came from Him?

Middles

James says God never changes — not even a little. So what does that mean for His goodness when your day falls apart?

Then push: “Name a day this month that felt bad — was God less good to you on that day than on other days?”

Teens

When you blow it or someone makes you the punchline, it can feel like God is pulling back. Whose voice is that, really?

Most of what feels like God’s disappointment is really our own shame or someone’s cruelty talking — His goodness never hung on our performance. Where this week did a feeling tell you something about God that His word doesn’t?

Walk It Out

Right now, everyone hold their breath as long as they can. That gasp — you didn’t make that breath. It was given, and so is the next.

Prayer

Father, we grab what is good and forget where it came from. Make us people who love You more than Your gifts, and who taste something good and look up.
